Job Title: Electro-Mechanical Product Design Engineer

Summary:

Responsible for planning, designing, testing, and implementing advanced electro-mechanical products. Develop innovative design solutions using sound engineering principles and ensure compliance with industry standards for safety and performance. Collaborate cross-functionally to bring products from concept to serial production, leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing projects through a stage-gate process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop high-performance electro-mechanical products aligned with cost, appearance, and functional specifications.
• Analyze technical literature (e.g., patents, white papers) to identify design opportunities and constraints; provide informed recommendations.
• Apply a working knowledge of electrical components, control systems, PLCs, and VFDs.
• Manage projects using tools like Gantt charts to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
• Utilize Design for Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., Poka Yoke, DOE, Risk Analysis).
• Build and test prototypes; proficient in the use of calipers, micrometers, mills, and lathes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design and manufacturing issues including installation, packaging, and special applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Sales, Production, Quality, and Procurement.
• Drive engineering changes and continuous improvement initiatives via ECO procedures.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, certifications, and approvals.
• Conduct detailed engineering analysis and communicate findings through technical reports.
• Provide technical training and support to internal (Sales, Production, Marketing) and external stakeholders (customers, dealers).
• Estimate product cost and capital expenditure requirements.
• Travel as needed to customer sites, manufacturing plants, or suppliers.
• Understand intellectual property practices and the patent process.
• Support customers and sales teams in product selection, application, and installation.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical preferred).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.

Experience:

• Minimum of 8 years in the building products industry or 12 years in related product engineering roles.
• Proven experience in leading design projects, managing cross-functional teams, and developing product specifications.
• Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong written and verbal communication; able to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
• Skilled in CAD tools, including AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
